Another edition of Know Your Murderers

So, I have a niece whom I love. She’s 14 years old. I asked her if she wanted to join me on the March against Monsanto tomorrow. She had no idea of what I was talking about! What are they teaching in school these days? Never mind, I know. Same thing the news media is pitching…..situation normal, keep consuming…….don’t be worrying your pretty little head about Arctic ice melt or genetically modified organisms….pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

I rage. Fruitlessly.

TransCanada is in the news a lot (well, the news I read anyway). TransCanada is an energy and pipeline company and they are the ones building the Keystone XL pipeline from Alberta Canada to the port of Houston TX.
This is the CEO of TransCanada. His name is Russell K. Girling. Handsome devil, isn’t he?

TranscanadaRussGirling

He made $8,679,314 (Canadian) total compensation in 2012. Nice work, huh? TransCanada is currently involved in 56 eminent domain battles against landowners in Texas and South Dakota, and Texas judge Bill Harris has okay’d their land grab. Wonder what his payoff might be?

Halliburton is on their board of directors, of course, in the meat puppet form of David Lesar. Couldn’t find much on Girling, which is no surprise. If you were doing what he’s doing, you’d hide too.

From my home state, please welcome to Murderer’s Row Andrew N. Liveris, CEO of Dow Chemical.

Andrew_N__Liveris_World_Economic_Forum_2013

Dow is so bad they bought Union Carbide. Union Carbide has thousands and thousands of deaths on their hands. Dow was recently fined $1.2 billion on a price fixing case, but their specialty is polluting groundwater with dioxins. But as their probably well paid mouthpiece says, “Just because it’s there doesn’t mean there is an imminent health threat.”

Right.

Andrew made, in 2012, $22,989,667 for producing chemicals that kill people. He’s a republican, of course, married to Paula and has 3 presumably “normal” kids. He lives at 1308 W. Sugnet Rd Midland MI 48640 as far as I can tell, but he’s Australian by birth. Darwin, Australia.

Dow’s got Whirlpool, Marathon Oil, JP Morgan and Mastercard board members.

I’m throwing the next one in just because this one pisses me off so bad. I doubt they have the total landbase destruction on their heads that the others do, but they make money off of misery and deserve hereby to be included. So give a shout out to Corrections Corporation of America and their CEO, Damon T. Hininger.

I can’t get a handle on exactly how many prisons/detention centers they run, but I’ve seen anywhere from 44 to 65 facilities listed. And juvenile facilities are in the mix.

CCA is headquartered in Nashville and is a publically traded company on the NYSE – CXW. Address is 10 Burton Hills Blvd Nashville TN 37215.

Damon made only $2,772,435 in total comp for 2012, but his company is growing like a motherfucker don’t you know, with revenues around $1.7 billion a year. They are hiring and have Thurgood Marshall Jr. on their board.

I loved how the ACLU described them: “Banking on human bondage.” Now, THERE is a corporate motto to be proud of!

Quick update: In the April 21st edition of “Know Your Murderers”, ExxonMobil’s Rex Tillerson and Monsanto’s Hugh Grant were profiled. Yesterday, many local communities held a March Against Monsanto, including my own. Here in our little town, perhaps as many as a thousand people showed up, including me and Mr. Nobody. In response to the global movement against GMOs, Monsanto reiterated it’s belief that GMOs help improve agriculture by helping farmer’s produce more with less energy and water.

Of more interest is that the US Senate, this last week, voted “overwhelmingly” to reject a bill that would allow states to require labeling of genetically modified foods. The good old rich white men in our most esteemed house are really looking out for the common good, aren’t they?
